One thing that can be very helpful to a survivor is when they are in distress ask the question, “What can I do for you right now that would be helpful?”  It is very important to not assume what the survivor needs.  If a survivor says they don’t know what would help then you can offer to pray or sit quietly with them.  Offering food or a drink can also help,  Letting the survivor know you care and want to help will go a long way in the healing process.
