When you build a house you have directions on construction, if you build bridge you have directions (measurements, etc.) but when you build a community there are no directions. For us there was just a word “go forth.” God does have a sense of humor, I don’t always understand His humor but I get the sense He is making a “funny.” He knew we were into new territory and He was delighting how we were going to build this thing together.
When we began community we had three people in leadership with the same vision to help those who had been through years of trauma. We did not have was a clear idea what community looked like. Sometimes I believe we only heard “go forth” and then we got too busy to hear the rest of the message “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.” The part of the verse we often get hung up on is “and lean not on your own understanding.” Unfortunately we don’t realize we have strayed from Proverbs 3:5-6 until we see we are knee deep in chaos.
God is so precious, He taps us on the shoulder and says “Hey remember Me? I have the directions and you need Me to direct your path.” We cannot build anything purposeful without Him!
