big brave friend
you came to me as a puppy, only 6 weeks old
and such pretty blue chesepeake eyes.....beautiful baby dog
and you always knew exactly what i was saying, even when i said you could not pee in the house.....you learned so fast
and you went riding with me, and even hid under my horse's belly when a mad cow elk chased you....silly dog
and you defended your children....my children....from their own father when he attacked them
and you stopped him from hurting me too
you got between me and harm
and you laid by me when i was sick
and closer by when i tried to die
you never left me side willingly
you are my lifelong friend
but now you hurt
and have lumps where you should not
and you groan when you lay down
and you can't hardly walk with me anymore
and you don't like food anymore
and i see it in your eyes
you are sad
cause it is time now for you to leave me
itis time
to let you go
home
your body just can't stay here anymore
and you are sorry to leave me
i understand
it hurts in my heart
but i understand
and on Saturday
if you have not gone of your own accord
i will send you home to Jesus
painlessly and quickly
with my blessings, faithful friend
in to Jesus' arms
with so many of my other friends.....
you go to join a wonderful crowd of my animal friends.....
and i smile when i think of you meeting them there
it is the only smile i have in this
that you will be out of pain
and happy again, and able to run again
and eat
and sleep painlessly
and dig all the holes you want.....
i love you Liath
and i wish you didn't have to go
but i understand....
and i love you forever
