Taking back the joy

We tucked away our faith,
determined to keep it from harm.
Stolen were miles of smiles,
but there was no one to sound the alarm.

We hid within our heart,
for there we dared to whisper
To ask God's forgiveness
and love in us stir,

Our world was turned into frightening darkness.
What? A glimmer of hope, a little SOS?

God's painted promise covered a corner of our heart
He stayed near us, wouldn't let them keep us apart.

Years traveled and still we hid,
Memories too painful for just one kid.

That little bit of faith that was tucked away
Now shines like a lamp upon the healing Gateway.

Little by little the smiles are returning
as Love seems determined a song to sing.

Filled with the Spirit we recognize the decoy
Filled with the Spirit we are taking back the joy.
