C.A.R.E., Inc. is a prayer ministry to survivors of severe trauma.  The ministry tools include spiritual warfare praying, the Word of God, Modeling of the Lord Jesus Christ to confront demonic strongholds, and THRIVE principles (what happens to the brain during trauma).  The survivor also has an opportunity to visit and talk with our community.

Our goal is not only to offer an intensive time for the survivor, but to teach the survivor's support teams to be empowered to continue the work after returning to their own community.  We offer follow-up support to the team (pastor, therapist, or caregiver) by phone appointments and further intensives as needed.

A survivor of trauma needs as many support team members  to come to the intensive as possible.  If that is not workable the survivor needs to have at least one stable, trusted support person who is willing to learn, be led by the Holy Spirit, and be willing to accompany the survivor to the C.A.R.E. facility.  We also recommend that the survivor and team read The Life Model before coming for prayer ministry.  The support team who attends the prayer counseling sessions with the survivor must have an interest and willingness to learn how to continue the prayer counseling work when the intensive sessions end.  It is recommended that a solid Christian foundation be observed in the survivor (accomplished through discipleship and a trusting relationship with a support person who exemplifies Christ) before scheduling an intensive.

Due to personal differences in abilities and preferences on how much time per day can be devoted to healing, we schedule intensives based on 3-hour intervals per day.  Half day (3 hours each day) to full days (6 hours each day) can be reserved for a week or part of a week, depending on the individual need.

Contact our office to discuss available times at 231-745-0500.  The cost for a prayer ministry session is $75 per hour for one C.A.R.E. staff member and $150 per hour for two staff members.  We reserve the right to determine when two C.A.R.E. staff members might be required for any session.  We will make every effort to work with you if this presents a financial hardship.  We also reserve the right to cancel a session in the event of illness or emergency (you will receive a refund for any services not provided).

Jo Getzinger or Angie Stockamp will provide the ministry time.  We have many years of experience as licensed counselors with the treatment of trauma-based disorders. After many years of prayer ministry, we have determined that God is the true healer and the only one who can "set the captives free."  Although we recognize that clinical skills are helpful to bring into the prayer sessions, we want to emphasize that we take a spiritual approach in dealing with trauma-based disorders.  Because we believe that God is the healer, a distinction needs to be made between professional counseling and what we provide as a prayer ministry.  This prayer ministry service does not replace the need for continued professional therapy in cases where this is necessary.

You may schedule a 15-minute phone appointment with one of our staff members to discuss resources and assess needs.  This initial phone appointment is free of charge.  The fee for follow-up phone appointments is $75 per hour.

But those who suffer he delivers in their suffering; he speaks to them in their affliction.  He is wooing you from the jaws of distress to a spacious place free from restriction, to the comfort of your table laden with choice food.

"Type A traumas are the absence of good things we all need to receive.  These traumas produce problems in relationship, so recovery requires a loving relationship to fill the Type A void."  E. James Wilder, Ph.D. - Life Model

Psychological Abuse is defined as "rejecting, degrading/devaluing, terrorizing, isolating, corrupting, exploiting, denying essential stimulation, lack of emotional responsiveness or availability, unreliable and inconsistent parenting."  (#1-4, 6, 7, Hart et al., 1987, #5, Garbarino et al., 1986, #8 Briere 1992)

Emotional abuse is defined as "the act of omission, frequently the result of parental ignorance or indifference.  As a result the child is not given positive emotional support and stimulation.  Parents may give adequate physical care to the child but leave him/her alone in crib for long periods of time, seldom cuddle or talk to the child or fail to give him/her encouragement and recognition."   (Briere, John N. 1992 Child Abuse Trauma Theory and Treatment of the Lasting Effects. Newbury Park, CA: Sage)

In the future, CARE, Inc. desires to expand the counseling ministry to include those who suffer from Type A traumas.  It is felt that this type of expanded ministry would be a Christian outreach to the Baldwin community at large.

He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes, with the princes of their people.  He settles the barren woman in her home as a happy mother of children.  Praise the Lord.

Help, I've Got a Question

"The evidence is rapidly accumulating that the problem of severe trauma is considerable in scope and extremely grave in its consequences.   In 1992 alone, Childhelp USA logged 1,741 calls pertaining to ritual abuse alone.  Monarch Resources of Los Angeles logged approximately 5,000, Real Active Survivors tallied nearly 3,600, Justus Unlimited of Colorado received almost 7,000, and Looking Up of Maine handled around 6,000 calls."  The Journal of Psychohistory 22(3) Winter 1995

The goal of Help, I've Got a Question is to provide a low or no-cost resource of support and networking opportunity for wounded people and supporters such as therapists, clergy, and  community organizations.  We are also prepared to answer questions concerning our community, our Manna Congregation and any other questions that may help someone else in their healing progress.  Many abuse survivors and counselors seeking information on helpful treatment techniques and resources have found high costs involved when making inquiries from professionals.  Although there is usually no cost for contacts made with non-professional groups, they often do not have adequate experience to offer assistance. It is C.A.R.E.'s goal to offer such professional assistance through Help, I've Got a Question.
